HIST 2540 Family History

An introduction to the history of the family in one or more major world regions or nations which applies methods from social sciences and demography to explore the evolution of family practices and structures in response to social and technological changes. These include: family formation, lineages, familial relations, household economies, division of labor, reproduction, and inheritance patterns. Areas and periods of study will be determined by the instructor. The course surveys the history of technological innovations in genealogy and demography, and provides grounding in current, discipline-specific research technologies.
