PHYS 3280 Global Energy Science and Technology Intended for non-science majors, this course provides an introduction to the physical and technological principles behind various forms of energy production as well as its use and local/global environmental consequences. Topics include work, energy and power, the first and second laws of thermodynamics, electricity generation, fossil fuels, nuclear power, alternative/renewable energy sources and environmental risks/benefits. The course also examines cultural/societal differences in energy requirements, production and use across the globe. This is a descriptive non-laboratory course without the use of extensive mathematics. Credits: 3.0
