POL 2750 Politics and the Media


This course provides a critical examination of the role of the mass media as a major political player. The course provides an overview of the history of the development of the mass media, and explores the function of the mass media as watchdog, gatekeeper, agenda-setter, and manufacturer of consent. Questions of media bias, the effects of industry concentration, and issues associated with regulation of the press are considered. Students have the opportunity to engage in research on specific topics. Prerequisite(s): POL 1100  OR POL 1200
