SPAN 4360 The Modern Latin American Essay

A selective study of the most representative works by essay writers in Latin America. Emphasis is placed on those writers who have shaped the continental vision of the Latin American society. Writers include Arciniegas, Castro, Fernandez Retamar, Fuentes, Henriquez Urena, de Hostos, Mariategui, Paz, Picon Salas, Reyes, Rojas, Vasconcelos, Varona, and others. Taught in Spanish.
