URBN 3790 Urban Cinema

Course examines the interrelationship between urban space and film narrative in world cinema from early Soviet montage, through neo-realism and the Third World underground, to recent transnational productions. It foregrounds the role of the city as both spatial trope and protagonist film, and historicizes the reception of urban cinema in diverse cinematic contexts.
