HIST 3730 Germany After 1945

This course explores key historiographical debates concerning post-1945 Germany. First, it looks at main events in the postwar period, such as the German defeat, the Allied occupation, and the division of Germany. It also examines diverging social and political developments in West and East Germany. Secondly, it analyzes the fall of the Berlin Wall, the German reunification, and the Berlin Republic in the context of Europe and the world. A major underlying question of the course is the extent of continuity or discontinuity in German history before and after 1945.
