ASN 3730 Korean History

Surveys Korean history from the earliest times through the twentieth century. For the traditional periods, the foci are the evolution of Korean polity, social and economic structure, cultural life, and Korea’s relationship with its neighbors in East Asia. For the modern era, the course examines the opening of the country in the nineteenth cetury, Japan’s colonization, the nationalist movement, the Korean War, and the political and economic development in both South Korea and North Korea in the latter part of the twentieth century.
