ECON 4650 Research Based Industry Analysis

This is an empirical research course designed to integrate and further develop the quantitative and computational knowledge, and skills that students acquire in other economics courses. Students will learn to collate, analyze, and infer data, and also communicate their research findings in written form. The research topics will be primarily applied industry research. An external mentor from industry is highly encouraged, when possible the college will provide one. Students will be required to use a statistical software (R or Excel) and will progress from data retrieval and cleaning in the beginning of the semester to writing the research analysis by the end of the semester. The course will be project-based, real world applications of real data to complement the theoretical and analytical skills obtained in other Economics courses. The applied quantitative, computational and research skills practiced in this course will be valuable in their professional careers.

This course is proposed to be a UCC Writing Intensive (WI) and Technology Intensive (TI).
