CCJ 2680 U.S. Criminal Courts


This survey course gives an overview of court systems and criminal law and procedure in the United States. The course will examine the U.S. court system and its relationships with policing and correctional systems. The structure and functioning of courts, different types of courts, various court actors, and procedural protections under the U.S. Constitution will be discussed. Students will examine courts at the local, state, and federal levels, with an emphasis on current problems, controversies, and proposed solutions.
