MUSI 5110 Jazz History, Theory, and Repertoire for Educators


A course for music educators who are not jazz musicians but whose jobs include jazz education and jazz-related subjects. In this course we survey the history of jazz, examining the major figures and developments in the music from its beginnings to the present day, and learn theoretical concepts that apply to jazz and jazz improvisation for each period of jazz history that is studied. Further, students will learn the standard literature from each historical period.  Prerequisite(s): Undergraduate music degree or permission of music department.
