SMAT 5601 Internship and Seminar Alternate Route I


This course provides supervision for alternate route K-12 teachers of record completing the Secondary K-12 MAT degree. Supervision and seminars are designed to assist the alternate route candidate in applying professional knowledge, humanistic practices and reflective thinking to classroom situations. Candidates are observed a minimum of four times by a Clinical Supervisor (university professor) who assists them in developing professional knowledge, including the ability to plan, instruct, assess and reflect on practice using content and skills from all prerequisite courses.  The seminars, held face-to-face and online, provide additional support and assistance during the first year of teaching and afford time for discussion of classroom issues such as the context for learning, student factors, characteristics of students, selecting learning segments, assessing student learning, and reflecting on the teaching-learning continuum. Prerequisite(s): SMAT 5000   AND SMAT 5100 ​  Co-requisite(s): SMAT 5220   and one course in Content Pedagogy and Colloquium Course I
