ENG 3170 Modern American Literature Introduces major movements like modernism, social protest, regionalism, and confessional writing that shaped American fiction, poetry, and drama in the period from the end of World War I to the end of the Vietnam War. Writers may include Frost, Eliot, Hughes, Millay, Ginsberg, and Plath; Glaspell, O’Neill, Hellman, and Albee; Cather, Fitzgerald, Parker, Hemingway, Faulkner, Hurston, Steinbeck, O’Connor, Kerouac, and Barthelme.
