HIST 2910 History Civil Rights Movement

An introduction to the Civil Rights Movement in the U.S. from 1955 to 1970. Drawing on interviews, speeches, autobiographies, film, and monographs, the course explores the Movements historical and ideological origins within the context of racial, gender and class inequality in the U.S. society. It discusses how African American men and women, along with whites and other peoples, fought against discriminatory legislation, policies, and practices. The course focuses on the evolution of the African American struggle for social justice and political equality and concludes with the Movements legacy and impact on American society and othe rmovements for social justice.  Fulfills UCC Area 3-Historical Perspectives.
