POL 3270 Congress and Policy Proc In this course, students examine the structure, culture, processes and intergovernmental and constituency relations that determine congressional policy making. Topics to be considered include the structure and evolution of Congress, rules and procedures of lawmaking, the impact of pressure groups and campaign financing, partisanship, and the relations between Congress, the President, the Courts and pressure groups. Major policy battles over such issues as the federal budget, national health care reform, free trade, and foreign policy are also considered. The overall goal of this course is to provide students with the information, analysis and tools to enable them to contribute to their chosen profession and participate as active citizens in the society. This course is writing-intensive.
Prerequisite(s): POL 1100 OR POL 1200 Credits: 3.0
