POL 2420 Middle East: Local-Global Connections

This course focuses on New Jersey’s Middle Eastern communities and their organizations, exploring their histories, and examining their political concerns on the local, national, and international level. Attention will be paid to the cleavages within each community and the tools and strategies each one uses to influence local and international politics. Exploring the Diasporic perspective, the course will study the many significant and interesting links between the local and the global, thereby enhancing our understanding both of domestic politics and international relations. Particular attention will be paid to local connections to the Israel-Palestine conflict and to current political contestation in the region, internally and with the United States. This is a UCC Area 5 course.
