SOC 2430 Korean Immigrant Communities in the US


This course teaches the history of Korean immigrants to the U.S. in the context of immigration policies and Asian immigration. The course examines socioeconomic characteristics and institutions within Korean communities. The course covers theories of immigrant adaptation, history of Asian immigration and Korean immigration, and intergroup relations. As a course focusing on community engagement, students will learn basic research skills relevant to studying immigrant communities, while focusing on Korean enclave towns in New Jersey as sociological sites. The course incorporates site visits, guest speakers, and projects on Korean communities. This is a UCC area 5 course.

  Prerequisite(s): SOC 1010  , ASN 2010  , ASN 2700  , or 18 credits of UCC courses.
