SOC 3000 Forensic Interviewing of Children


This course will review controversies and best practices related to interviewing children with an emphasis on suspected victims of sexual abuse. The first part of the course will focus on research about children’s suggestibility, false memories, and child development. Students will examine the ways in which children can be misled with suggestive questions and interview techniques, including anatomically detailed dolls and diagrams. The second part of the course will focus on specific interview protocols and practical aspects of interviewing children. The course will conclude with the role of child advocacy centers in protecting children and preparing them for courtroom testimony.
