ECON 3650 Rules, Regulations, and Policies for Global Business


The course deals with the rules, regulations, and policies that international businesses face in trading, banking, and finance. Part 1 of the course focuses on international trade with particular emphasis on the structure of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and its regulations - traditional as well as new areas of non-tariff measures, environment, labor, and human rights. Regional trade agreements will also be discussed, particularly the case of the European Union and the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), now called USMCA. Part 2 of the course focuses on banking and finance, wherein attention will be given to the challenges faced by financial institutions, and the regulations implemented to promote investor and consumer confidence, financial stability, fair competition, and the reduction of financial crime.
