PHIL 3421 Philosophy and Cannabis The use of cannabis raises many philosophical questions. As cannabis becomes legally available and more widely and culturally accepted, these questions become more urgent. This course considers the philosophical aspects of cannabis use. Cannabis has been used for purposes that are intoxicative, religious, artistic, medical, wellness, and spiritual. This course examines the ways these uses raise traditional philosophical questions about truth, meaning, and values such as goodness, justice, beauty, flourishing, and the sacred. It looks at how major ethical theories evaluate types of use. It examines the philosophies
behind the cultures that have grown up around each type of use. Prerequisite(s): One course in UCC area 3A (Philosophical Perspectives-ways of knowing) Credits: 3.0
