SPAN 2340 Readings in Hispanic Literature


This course is an exploration of Hispanic literature across the globe. It focuses on the study of writers and
literary trends in Spanish (Peninsular literature), Spanish-American literature, as well as African
(Equatorial Guinea) and Philippine literature written in Spanish. Emphasis will be given to cross-cultural
literary conversations that allow reflection about Hispanic literary expression as a global phenomenon
marked by transatlantic exchanges and clashes. Students will be introduced to Hispanic poetry, narrative,
theater, short stories and essays; to the contributions and tendencies of different regions and countries; to
the history of the Hispanic literary landscape in the context of global interactions, and to forms of dialogue
between Hispanic literary production and other forms of representing and questioning the world. Taught in
Spanish.  This course fulfills a UCC Area 6 -Global Awareness requirement.
  Students must have 18 credits in Areas I, II and III in addition to having taken an Area 4 course. Prerequisite(s): SPAN 2110
