BIO 6330 Project Management in Biotechnology

Science is a business whether you are in academics, biotech, big pharma, or working in any organizational research foundation or contract research organization (CRO).  Project management addresses the business side of science and its role in research and drug development.  This graduate-level course focuses on basic project management for those intending to work in, or already working in, the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.  Content includes all aspects of project management from defining objectives, to putting together the project, establishing a timeline, monitoring and control, and analyzing and reporting.  Hands-on approaches include project management tools such as Gantt charts, Dashboards, RACI charts, SWOT analyses, Research Operating Plans, and Voice of Customer/Voice of Business importance.  Course material expands to broader program management, team leadership, project team dynamics (interdependence, stakeholders, turf wars), and effectively facilitating executive meetings.  Students are also introduced to Drug Discovery stages and how the ‘pipeline’ evolves within the realities of market and internal pressures.
