GEO 3410 Geography of North American Cities This course examines North American cities and suburbs from a geography perspective. It is organized into three parts as follows. In the first part, students will be introduced to concepts and theories in urban geography. The second part examines major trends in the evolution and development of North American cities and the internal (spatial) structure and characteristics of these cities, including land use patterns, ecoomic activities, transportation, housing and social differentiation. The third part focuses on the demographic, economic, social, and environmental problems resulting from urban growth, and how urban policies and programs are formulated and implemented to address these problems. Credits: 3.0
