PSY 3510 Psychopathology and Mental Disorders


This course will provide students with an overview of the social, environmental, cultural, developmental, and biological contexts of psychopathology and mental disorders. The symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders will be explored. Disorders will be understood through a biopsychosocial model as well as from multiple theoretical viewpoints. Students will also examine and critique the assumptions of psychiatric diagnostic systems of mental disorders. Students will be familiar with the major forms of psychopathology as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders - 5th Edition (DSM-5) or updated editions.
