CDSJ 3000 Foundations of Community Development


This course introduces students to the domain of ‘community development’ primarily in the USA and selected parts of the world. The historical and contemporary emergence of ‘communities’ as the locus for ‘development’ projects, programs, and state and international policies will be explored. Interdisciplinary theories/approaches to, and practices/skills for, community-based economic, sociopolitical and cultural development will be examined using community development case studies. A student community action project involving community-based interlocutors will be a central part of this course. This course satisfies UCC 5 and is Writing Intensive requirements.
