CCJ 3600 Crime, Media and Popular Culture Our understanding and perception of crime and the criminal justice system is largely informed by mass media and popular culture. In this course, students will investigate portrayals of crime in the news, television and movies, social media, and other contemporary forms of media. This course introduces key theories and concepts in media and crime to explore the (mis)information that is perpetuated through the mass media. It also examines how these representations shape public opinion and criminal justice policies and practices.
