CCJ 3030 Introduction to Criminal Analysis


This course provides an introduction to crime analysis, the systematic examination of patterns in crime. Students will study the history and importance of mapping and geographic information systems in understanding patterns of crime. Students will gain hands-on experience with industry standard software to make them more competitive on the job market. These skills are commonly used by police departments and other organizations for tracking and responding to crime problems. The course highlights contemporary issues in crime pattern analysis, including trends in crime and criminal justice responses to crime, ethical issues with collecting crime data, and the use of crime analysis in evidence-based practice.
