ASN 2840 Meditation and Mindfulness An introduction to the basic methods of and ideas behind a variety of meditative practices, informed both by contemporary evidence-based approaches to meditation as well as the historical traditions from which these approaches arise. Students’ investigations will be both first-personal and third-personal. First-personal investigations will involve taking time to explore a variety of techniques and meditate both in and out of the classroom. Third-personal investigations will involve working with texts grounded in traditional meditation literatures including Buddhist and Hindu traditions as well as in those from Islamic, Judaic, and Christian mystical contemplative traditions.
