CS 2010 Computer and Information Technology This course introduces students to the fundamentals of computers and information technology through two primary themes. The first theme focuses on essential computer concepts, including hardware and software components, computer systems, networks, and the Internet. Students will also examine the societal impacts of computing, covering topics such as privacy, security, intellectual property, and legal and ethical considerations. The second theme emphasizes practical skills in using various types of application software. Students will gain hands-on experience with word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, database management, and web design tools. The course also explores the impact of emerging technologies, such as AI, on these tools. Practical computer problem-solving skills are developed through hands-on exercises. Additionally, the course places a strong focus on the effective and ethical use of technology in academic, professional, and everyday contexts.
UCC Area I (Digital Literacies) Course Objectives: Explore and utilize digital technologies while developing essential skills for ethical and accurate use. Students will be charged an additional Comp Science Lab Fee when enrolling in this course. Credits: 3.0
