ENG 2230 The Story of English


This course provides an exploration of the English language’s evolution from its ancient roots to its contemporary global presence. It delves into the historical, linguistic, and literary dimensions that have shaped English over centuries. Students will examine the impact of invasions and colonization, analyze significant linguistic changes, and study the influence and contributions of literary works and authors. Students will develop an understanding of the factors influencing English and evaluate the implications for social policy, educational practices, and cultural behaviors. The course encourages critical thinking, comparative analysis, and hypothesis development, preparing students to address social and educational issues about language adaptability vs. rigidity.
