MATH 2300 Statistics I This course introduces fundamental statistical concepts and methods with an emphasis on developing an understanding of data collection, analysis, and interpretation. Topics include graphical and numerical techniques to summarize data, probability theory, and statistical inference. The two main themes are: Data Analysis and Visualization, where students will explore how to describe and visualize the distribution of a single variable as well as investigate relationships between two or more variables, and Probability and Statistical Inference, which introduces the concept of randomness and probability as foundations for drawing conclusions from data and allows students to make inferences about populations based on sample data, evaluate the reliability of these inferences using confidence intervals and hypothesis tests, and apply probability distributions to practical problems. Throughout the course, students will gain hands-on experience with statistical software focused on real-world applications.
UCC Area J(Data & Analysis) Course Objectives: Learn and practice the principles, skills, and methods of data collection, analysis, making inferences, and communicating data-informed findings. Credits: 4.0
