POL 1250 Law in Everyday Life Law shapes every aspect of our lives: where we can live, who is recognized as family, who has authority over our bodies, and what we can consume are just some of the legal issues that frame our lives in the modern world. An understanding of the legal system and the laws likely to affect one’s life can help students to develop confidence and self-efficacy, core elements of well-being, as members of our society. This course introduces the U.S. court systems where legal issues are adjudicated, as well as areas of criminal and civil law such as contracts, leases, personal injury, and civil rights and liberties. From understanding fundamental rights to learning to read residential leases, students will develop skills and knowledge to manage their well-being as subjects in the legal world.
UCC Area A (Well-Being): This course provides students with the core skills and knowledge for managing personal well-being, such as physical, mental, emotional, ethical, social, academic, and/or financial factors. Credits: 3.0
