SOC 2310 Sociology of Family This course explores the sociological study of families, examining how family structures and relationships contribute to the formation of individual and collective identities, focusing on intersectional and feminist perspectives. Students will analyze how socialization within families shapes experiences across diverse identities, considering how factors like gender, race, socioeconomic status, and sexual orientation impact family experiences. The course interrogates the dynamics of power within families, analyzing how systems of domination and oppression influence both family experiences and broader social inequalities. Through the evaluation of public policies, students will explore how equity and social justice can be fostered within family systems, emphasizing the potential for families to challenge inequalities and act as agents of change.
