CIED 2100 Digital Literacies for Future Teachers This course examines educators’ digital literacy challenges and opportunities with a specific focus on the role of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in (re)shaping the role of educators as lesson planners, technology integrators and evaluators. Students will explore how digital technologies influence and expand access to educational content knowledge and educational tools. Students will critically examine the digital divide’s influence on access to educator skills and ethical dilemmas that may arise from the (over) use of technologies, such as generative AI. Students will learn how to use various digital technologies, including apps and generative AI. Through hands-on activities, critical discussions, and education case study analyses, learners will develop the professional skills to navigate various educational digital technologies responsibly. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with strategies to effectively use various educational technologies, including generative AI, in their future profession as educators to enhance their digital literacy while cautiously considering its limitations.
