ANTH 2300 Culture, Identity & Cognition This course explores the concept of “culture” from a ‘biocultural’ anthropological perspective focusing on how culture shapes two critical dimensions of human existence: a) Identity and group belonging, and b) Cognition and knowledge. Students will explore the culture concept and engage with debates on cultural identity formation and politics of identity. This will set the foundation for exploration of the relation between culture and ‘human nature,’ the centrality of culture to the evolutionary history of humans, and the role of culture and language in the process of knowledge acquisition and transmission. This is a writing intensive course. Credits: 3.0
