BIO 5300 Biotechnology: DNA


Techniques of DNA purification and quantification. Students analyze DNA by Southern transfer, prepare plasmid and phage vectors and clone sequences into those vectors. Antibiotic selection, filter screening and hybridization analysis of cloned libraries are performed. Related topics include prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene structure, choice and construction of vectors and applications of genetic engineering. For biotechnology majors. Lecture and lab. Students will be charged an additional Biology Lab Fee when enrolling in this course. Prerequisite(s): Genetics course or permission of the instructor
