CIEC 2400 Early Childhood Clinical Experience & Seminar


This semester-long early childhood clinical experience and seminar course is designed to provide teacher candidates with the opportunity to work with an experienced teacher in preschool to grade 3 classrooms. Candidates will plan and implement lessons and assessments, become familiar with New Jersey Student Learning and NJ Preschool Teaching & Learning Standards, and apply developmentally appropriate teaching principles and practices with diverse learners in preschool to grade 3 settings. Candidates will gain experience in leading instruction in a variety of flexible groups (individual, whole group, small group) and selecting materials to facilitate and support learning and develop classroom management skills. Candidates will practice using effective assessment tools, such as anecdotal records, documentation boards, analytic rubrics, and checklists.  
 
Clinical supervisors will observe a minimum of two times, provide the candidate with written and oral feedback and support reflective practice as evidenced in student journals. An advanced application to the Office of Field Experiences is required for field placement which will take place one full day per week.    Prerequisite(s): CIED 2070  ; EDUC 2000   Co-requisite(s): CIEC 3200  ;CIEC 3250
