CIEC 3250 Language and Literacy Development: Preschool-Kindergarten This course provides an in-depth study of literacy and language development in Preschool and Kindergarten classrooms, including the knowledge and strategies needed to teach foundational literacy skills in these domains: Language, Reading, Writing, and Speech & Hearing. The course highlights the use of diverse, multicultural literature to create inclusive, literacy-rich activities at school and in partnership with families. Aligned with NJ Preschool Teaching and Learning Standards (NJPTLS) and the NJ Student Learning Standards (NJSLS), the course equips students to plan, implement and assess effective lessons for the development of language and literacy skills (oral language, alphabetic principle, phonics, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, and reading comprehension) using a multi-sensory approach together with scaffolded, differentiated instruction to support the needs of all learners.
