2023-2024 Undergraduate Catalog [ARCHIVED CATALOG]

University Core Curriculum requirements and courses.

Beginning Fall 2011, the University Core Curriculum (UCC) became the general education program of William Paterson University for students entering Fall 2011 or later. It is a 40 credit program, which constitutes a third of the entire undergraduate curriculum.

Students create their University Core Curriculum experience by choosing a sequence of 13 (thirteen) courses from each of the following six areas of study:

  1. Personal Well-Being
  2. Expression
  3. Ways of Knowing
  4. Diversity and Justice
  5. Community and Civic Engagement
  6. Global Awareness

Each area and sub-area has a variety of courses to choose from. In some cases a major may specify some UCC courses for certain areas. Some courses taken as part of the major may also count towards the UCC requirement.
